London; Country Life, 1937 1st, 144 pp, Thirty two pastel watercolors & forty eight in black & white drawings by Dowd, documenting the early years of childhood. This copy internally sound, clean, unmarked and bright. A piece has been cut from the top of the FEP, presumably an owner's name. The dust wrapper, as can be seen in the accompanying image, is rough at the top and missing parts of the spine. It is now in a protective glassune sleve. Inventory # 7721. Price $160.00

A Surprise To The Children
NY. Doubleday and Son: 1933. Indicated First Edition. Hardback 8.5X10 inches. 88 pages. Cloth-backed paper boards with image replicated on the Dust Wrapper. This is in many ways the most interesting of Dowd's children's books because it contains not only the black and white sketches for which he is so rightly admired, but 5 full page color illustrations as well. In addition there are 13 full page black and white drawings. All of these on glossy paper. In addition to these there are decorations around the musical scores, chapter head drawings and various other decorations. Wonderful book.

COPY 1: This copy in chipped dust wrapper. protacted with Brodart. Dedication of FEP dated 1936. Quite rare in its jacket. Inventory # 7743. Price $160.00

COPY 2: Wrapper not as good as COPY 1. Tear at bottom left corner front as well as top and much frayed at perimeter. Book covers shelf rubbed but clean. Interior fine. No inscriptions, no marks. Inventory# 7741 Price $140.
COPY 3: Without wrapper. Indicated First Edition. Some ink scribbles on top front end papers. Bumped corners. Some foxing of initial pages. No major damage but a copy that has been read many times. Inventory # 7808 Price $45.00
